First Polling Stations Close in US Midterm Elections as Voters Decide Control of Congress

The first polling stations in the US midterm elections have closed, in parts of Kentucky and Indiana.

At stake in the election are all seats in the House of Representatives and around a third of the Senate seats. The election will also serve as a verdict on President Donald Trump's rule.

Opinion polls have suggested that the Democrats are likely to win control of the House of Representatives, while the Senate race is less certain.

The states expected to play a major role in the Senate race are Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio and Texas.
