According to Economic Affairs Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, the first tranche consists of 3.2 billion euros - almost 35 billion Swedish kronor, reports the AFP news agency.
The payment will be made "around mid-June".
EU countries agreed in principle on the giant loan totaling 90 billion euros - 980 billion Swedish kronor - at their summit in Brussels in December. However, the actual implementation of the loan then became bogged down in opposition from Hungary, which was not resolved until Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s defeat in the Hungarian parliamentary elections in April.
