Instead of, as planned, presenting this year's nominations on January 17, the ceremony is now being moved forward two days to January 19. This means that the voting will also be extended by two days, announced The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday, writes entertainment site The Wrap.
Voting will now close on January 14.
This is the first time in the nearly 100-year history of the Oscars that the nominations have been delayed.
"We wish to extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the wildfires in southern California. So many of our members and colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area and we are thinking of you," writes Bill Kramer, executive director of the American Film Academy in an email to members.
Several film shoots and premieres have been temporarily cancelled due to the wildfires in the area. The Critics Choice Awards gala has been moved forward two weeks and will now be held on January 26.
