Finnish Triumph: Seppälä and Minkkinen Edge Out Rivals in Biathlon Thriller

It became Finnish at the top in the Biathlon Competition at Stockholm's stadium. Tero Seppälä and Suvi Minkkinen won the single mixed relay ahead of Martin Ponsiluoma and Hanna Öberg in a dramatic final in front of a sold-out arena, around 10,000 spectators.

The margin of victory was one second.

God, it's so exciting, Martin is incredibly strong, but it was one second too much, says Öberg about the final lap when Martin Ponsiluoma was about to catch up with Seppälä.

It's been fantastic to compete here. I have to say, like Ella (Halvarsson), today I shot like a god, says Hanna Öberg, who shot full in the final, to SVT.

Martin Ponsiluoma thought a second place was acceptable.

Hanna's performance was incredibly good and a podium place is acceptable, says Ponsiluoma.

"Really cool"

It became the biathlon party that the athletes had hoped for.

It's really cool and it's going to be a real show competition. This is what biathlon is made for, says Ponsiluoma.

He and Öberg shared over 120,000 kronor in second prize. The winners were awarded over 150,000 kronor.

Norwegian superstar Johannes Thingnes Bø, who is retiring after the season, was hailed at the Stadium but didn't make it in the competition.

Together with Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, they finished seventh.

Outside the podium

Johanna Skottheim, who replaced a tired Elvira Öberg, finished fourth together with Sebastian Samuelsson.

They had barely six seconds up to third place Juni Arnekleiv/Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen, Norway.

The athletes in the teams that didn't make it to the final got to compete in individual races with two shootings (10 shots).

On the women's side, Deedra Irwin, USA, won in a time of 5.08, four seconds ahead of Anna Magnusson.

Both shot full.

On the men's side, Miha Dovzan, Slovenia, won, and Jesper Nelin finished fourth.

The individual winners were awarded over 11,000 kronor.
