The scandal became known after Hwang's sister-in-law posted private pictures and videos of Hwang with another woman on social media in the summer of 2023. The sister-in-law was sentenced to three years in prison last year for, among other things, blackmailing the soccer player.
Hwang has made 62 international appearances and scored 19 goals for the South Korean national team, playing in all of the country's World Championship matches in 2022, but was suspended in November 2023 when it became known that he was being investigated by the police.
After initially denying the crime, Hwang Ui-Jo admitted to the offense in October last year and is now being sentenced to a suspended sentence, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
He was prosecuted for filming sexual acts with two different women, but was acquitted of the crime in one of the cases.
The 32-year-old now plays for Alanyaspor in the Turkish top league. He has previously played for Norwich in the English second division and was part of Nottingham Forest without playing any Premier League matches.
