It was almost full, with 44,985 spectators, when South Korea beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in Guadalajara. But it was noticeably empty in some sections of the stands, and FIFA is now accused of inflating the attendance figures to hide the fact that so few tickets were sold for the Group A match, writes the BBC.
FIFA's explanation is that people were simply up and moving around.
"Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present in the stadium area, rather than how many are seated in a particular seat at any given time during a match," FIFA said in a statement.
