The figures were compiled by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA)'s Social Media Protection Service, which reviewed comments directed at players, managers, referees and other players during the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Over six million posts and comments were analysed during the group stage. The AI flagged 250,000 of these posts for manual review, and of these, 89,000 contained offensive content.
According to the report, 11 percent of hate posts had racist motives. This is an increase of 3 percent compared with the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
