The dry and windy spring may have something pleasant with it – at least for those who dislike mosquitoes, reports P4 Dalarna.
It doesn't seem to be a mosquito summer. Mosquito eggs require water to hatch, but the lack of puddles and low water levels put a stop to this year's new mosquitoes.
If there are no puddles, the eggs won't be able to hatch, says Jan Lundström, researcher at Biological Mosquito Control, to the radio.
But mosquito eggs can survive for several years in the soil to then hatch under favorable conditions.
They can hatch at every flooding from May to August.
