Since 2010, the number of LO unions that provide direct party contributions to S has decreased from twelve to two - IF Metall and GS, according to Arbetet. Many unions have instead chosen other ways to pursue their issues.
At the same time, the central organization LO's financial support to S remains at the same level as in the election year 2022: 6 million kronor annually. In addition, LO is investing 30 million kronor this year in its own union election campaign.
In the 2022 parliamentary election, 58 percent of LO's members voted for parties other than S, which has also raised questions about the extent of contributions to the party from the central union and individual unions.
