More and more people who work in an EU country find themselves in what the European Trade Union Confederation calls "holiday poverty", which means that one cannot afford a week's holiday despite working.

The group constitutes 15 percent of those who work in an EU country and has increased by over one million people in a year's time. In total, it involves over 41.4 million people, reports Arbetsvärlden which is based on statistics from Eurostat that the European trade union has analyzed.

The years being compared are 2022 and 2023, based on the latest available data.

In Romania, almost every third person who works is in "holiday poverty", the corresponding proportion in Sweden is five percent.
