The Rafah border crossing with Gaza opened this week. It was seen as a "window of hope" for many people affected by the war between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas. But few people have crossed the border.

The opening of the border between Egypt and Gaza is part of the fragile ceasefire in place.

Reports indicate difficulties for people wishing to cross the border in both directions; testimonies say Palestinian travelers have been taken away in handcuffs for interrogation by Israeli soldiers.

Under the deal, 50 travelers would be allowed to return to Gaza per day, and another 50 patients - each with two accompanying people - would be allowed to leave for treatment. Around 20,000 residents are believed to need medical care.

But even these small numbers have not been able to cross at Rafah.
