"The leg continues to get better, but unfortunately I still feel pain during certain activities and when skiing," the 36-year-old wrote on social media, according to the Austrian news agency APA.
Brignone will have a plate removed from her leg and will also undergo meniscus surgery.
The Italian crashed badly in April 2025 and suffered multiple injuries. The Olympics on home soil were in danger for a long time, but she made the start and won gold in both giant slalom and super-G. The feats were widely seen as some of the greatest achievements of the Winter Games.
This winter's Alpine World Cup begins in Sölden, Austria, on October 24-25 with giant slalom for women and men.
