The man attacked the demonstrators with something comparable to a flamethrower and homemade firebombs, according to the police. The incident is being investigated as a terrorist act.
The injured are between 52 and 88 years old, some of them have burn injuries. They were participating in an action within the initiative Run for their lives, which urges participants to walk or run to draw attention to the hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
At a press conference late on Monday, it was stated that the injured in the attack had been increased from eight to twelve people.
Federal Hate Crime
The suspected perpetrator, who is in his 45-year-old, also required hospital care after the attack.
On Monday afternoon, the suspected perpetrator was brought before a preparatory court hearing, where he was formally charged with federal hate crime. The accusation was made following police interrogations, including with the federal police FBI during the day.
The suspected perpetrator is believed to have planned the act for a year, and it took place in connection with a Jewish high holiday.
FBI Director Kash Patel describes the incident on X as a terrorist attack: "We are aware of and are fully investigating a targeted terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado".

The attack took place in central Boulder, where Run for their lives regularly holds manifestations after the outbreak of war in October 2023.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu writes in a communiqué that he, his wife, and the entire Israeli people pray for those injured in the attack.
USA's President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the suspected perpetrator should "be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law". According to information, the suspected perpetrator arrived in the USA on a tourist visa in August 2022 and has been illegally in the USA since February 2023.
