The results continue to look bleak for Halfvarsson, who has had a tough period on the track this season.
On Sunday he finished seventh, 46 seconds behind winner Jonas Eriksson in the 10-kilometer race.
Still, he believes that the feeling in his body is better than the efforts suggest.
"I feel pretty early on that this is just going to be a struggle all the way. But I'm doing the best I can. I'm where I am. But I still feel like I'm on track," says Halfvarsson.
Now there is one last chance for the veteran to get an Olympic ticket. Next weekend's World Cup competitions could be decisive, and the Swedish squad for that event will be announced on Tuesday.
"I hope that my second place on Friday, where I showed class, will be enough. As I've said all weekend, another month of training without any hassle... Then I should be in pretty good shape for the Olympics," he says.
Two places for the Olympics in Milan and Cortina are still available on the Swedish men's ski squad.
There was no drama on the women's side.
Jonna Sundling showed class and set the tone early on, clearly sharper than the rest of the starting field.
The Swedish sprint star took a dominant victory, finishing just over a minute ahead of second-place Evelina Crüsell. Emilia Eriksson completed the podium in third.
