Around 6,500 Faroese people are estimated to have bought tickets for the men's national team's three group-stage matches in Oslo at the European Handball Championship. That is from an island with just under 55,000 inhabitants.
The national airline Atlantic Airways has scheduled 18 departures with Oslo as the destination, bringing 3,000 Faroese to Norway, reports broadcaster KVF.
According to KVF, around 1,000 people are also on board a ferry that will dock in the Norwegian capital on Friday.
Two venues are booked in Oslo during the three match days, and supporter leader Rúni Djurhuus has already studied the Norwegian alcohol regulations.
"We are happy people in the Faroe Islands. When we get drunk, it becomes a show and a mess. We are nervous about how you, the Norwegians, handle that," says Djurhuus.
The Faroe Islands are a self-governing area within Denmark, but geographically Norway is closer.
"We feel like we are at home, we are always well received. And we like to say that now Norway will get to meet real Vikings," says Djurhuus.
In the upcoming European Championship, Norway and the Faroe Islands may first meet in a semi-final, but it would be a shock of gigantic proportions if the Faroese reach that far in only their second international championship.
Norway, which shares the hosting rights with Sweden and Denmark, plays in Group C in Oslo. The Faroe Islands are in Group D and face Switzerland, Montenegro and Slovenia in the first group stage.
If they advance, they will face a game in the middle round in Malmö, where Sweden could be an opponent.
The European Championship will be held from January 15 to February 1.
