Around a hundred Japanese people have joined forces in a lawsuit against the Japanese government, citing what they consider to be “grossly inadequate” climate action.

The plaintiffs are demanding compensation for damages they believe have arisen through “unconstitutional” inaction on climate change, and claim that Japan’s actions have been “grossly inadequate.”

Among other things, it is pointed out that employees work slower or faint while working in high temperatures.

"I can barely dig with a shovel for ten minutes without sitting down to rest," says construction worker Kiichi Akiyama, who has joined the lawsuit.

We wouldn't be in this terrible situation if the government had taken more initiative to implement policy measures, says Akiyama.
