Trump believes that if he can just stop the fighting, everything will be resolved, and then he can cultivate his economic interests in Russia.
For it to work, the US president needs to impress his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at this point, which would be the reason why the plan, according to widespread criticism in the world, so unilaterally favors Russia.
And if the initiative faces too much opposition, Trump could have his party colleagues in Congress stop it, says Goble, who worked for Republican presidents in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and then worked as an analyst for the CIA, among other things.

But the big problem, according to Goble, is the misconception that if the guns fall silent, the conflict is resolved. If the plan is implemented against Ukraine's will, it will not mean peace, but it could fuel contempt among many Ukrainians for both Russia and the United States.
