"Half a million, that's a lot. And we expect that number to increase," says Björn Eriksson, Director General of the National Board of Health and Welfare, in Svenska Dagbladet.
A report of concern is filed when someone suspects that a child is being harmed. The majority are made by the police, schools and healthcare providers, and the number of reports was 55 percent higher than in 2018, when the first survey was conducted.
The 2024 reports involved 233,000 children. The increase may be due to a lower threshold for reporting.
"We know that half of these reports lead to some form of investigation, and that there are enough people who are harmed that we should be concerned," project manager Johanna Garefelt tells the newspaper.
