Introduce minimum requirements for what can be claimed about goods and products that are said to be environmentally friendly. The EU Commission thought this was a good idea when it presented a proposal in 2023 against so-called greenwashing – "green washing" in English.

The European Parliament's largest party group, the conservative EPP, is withdrawing its support. In a letter from EPP's representatives, including Swedish Arba Kokalari (M), it is warned that the proposed rules are too complicated and costly, reports the news site Politico Europe.

Swedish Green party is not satisfied.

"It is completely unacceptable, though not surprising when The Moderate Party's climate policy is greenwashing in its purest form", comments Alice Bah Kuhnke (Green party) via SMS to TT.

Arba Kokalari calls the proposal "meaningless paperwork that does not save the climate".

"This proposal would silence serious environmental messages and drown sustainable companies in paperwork. Both Swedish companies, environmental labeling and consumer organizations have been critical of the proposal, which Alice Kuhnke would have been aware of if she had been present in the negotiations", she says in a written statement.
