An extraordinary meeting, where the different European broadcasting companies would have voted on Israel's participation, was planned for the beginning of November. The discussion will now take place in December, announces the EBU's board.
"Against the background of the events in the Middle East, the board is unanimous that there is a clear need to arrange an open and physical discussion among the members about participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Therefore, the board has decided to put the matter on the agenda for the regular meeting in December, instead of arranging an extra meeting", the board writes in a press release, according to Aftonbladet.
Israel's participation has been strongly questioned since the Hamas terror attack in the country on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza.
