The European players in the Ryder Cup totally condemn the American audience's behavior. It should be forbidden, but it was apparently not that this week, says Rory McIlroy.

Europe won the Ryder Cup away after dominating the game for most of the competition. But the weekend was occasionally anything but pleasant for the European players.

The American fans on site at Bethpage Black, outside New York, heckled the guests from Europe.

Rory McIlroy had to endure the worst. The audience shouted and booed loudly against the Northern Irishman both at the tee and when it was time to putt. His wife Erica also heard various insults from the audience. She also had a beer mug thrown over her. McIlroy therefore had to be escorted by police dogs for his own safety during the weekend's rounds.

I wish they had let the dogs loose, he jokes at the press conference after Europe's victory.

What happened here this week is completely unacceptable.

Europe's captain Luke Donald agrees.

It was tough. Sometimes it was completely brutal out there, it really was. It was really disgusting at times, he says.

The American stars were nervous ahead of Sunday's play, given that they had performed so poorly the previous days. But even then, it was the Europeans who had to endure most of the hatred.

Cam (Young) and I told Shane (Lowry) and Rory (McIlroy) that we felt for them. It was unfortunate, says Justin Thomas.
