The European Parliament demands with a large majority that Iran immediately releases the imprisoned Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali.
The resolution, which was voted through with 486 votes against 8, is indeed non-binding, but aims to put further pressure on Iran.
"Sweden and the EU must do more to put pressure on Iran to abolish the death penalty and stop imprisoning dissenters", says Swedish member Alice Bah Kuhnke (Green party) in a statement.
