Teodorescu Måwe Claims Political Attack in EU Parliament Dispute

EU parliamentarian Alice Teodorescu Måwe (CD) says that it was she who was attacked in Brussels, not the other way around. "The sequence of events was politically motivated and is therefore to be regarded as an attack on me in my assignment as an elected representative, against my party, and against democracy as such", she writes on X.

It was on Wednesday that a confrontation arose between Teodorescu Måwe and an official in the Left Party in the parliament's premises in Brussels. The versions of what happened diverge.

According to the Left Party, the Christian Democrat politician went on a "sudden attack" on their employee, who allegedly got scratches on their arm. The Christian Democrats reject the allegations, stating that it was Teodorescu Måwe who was attacked by the official, who allegedly photographed and harassed the Christian Democrat politician.

"Yesterday, I was attacked in the European Parliament, at my workplace, by a person I had never met. When I asked why, I understood that it was about my views on Israel and Hamas," writes Teodorescu Måwe on X.

Condemned by the Speaker

She writes that she has been falsely accused and that it is proven by the European Parliament's surveillance film.

"As unprovoked as I was attacked, I have been accused of assault against the person in question. The accusation is false."

Earlier on Thursday, EU Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola condemned the incident. At the same time, the parliament reiterated its support for Teodorescu Måwe's version of the brawl.

"After talking to those involved and reviewing the surveillance footage, the parliament's staff concluded that the incident was initiated and escalated by the official, who was seen photographing or filming MEP Alice Teodorescu Måwe without her consent," writes the parliament's spokesperson Delphine Colard in a statement to TT on Thursday evening.

Sparked Criticism

The EU Parliament's press service stated on Wednesday evening that "the initial assessment confirms the MEP's version", which sparked criticism from the Left Party.

"The statement made has caused great suffering and anxiety", writes the party to Aftonbladet, which reports that the Left Party has turned to Roberta Metsola with a complaint.

But the parliament's assessment stands.

"The Speaker condemns the incident and has asked the administration to investigate what measures are necessary to ensure a safe working environment", writes Delphine Colard to TT.

The Left Party has reported Teodorescu Måwe to the police for assault. The Christian Democrat politician, who traveled to Stockholm on Wednesday evening, will file a counter-complaint when she returns to Brussels.
