The bill requires aid organizations to share information about funding and personnel with the authorities, with the risk of being banned from conducting their activities if the requirements are not met.
According to Israeli authorities, the law is intended to prevent people with ties to terrorist groups from working within humanitarian organizations.
UN human rights chief Volker Türk calls the measure "scandalous" and writes in a statement that "such arbitrary decisions worsen the already unbearable situation for the people of Gaza."
EU Commissioner for Development Cooperation and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib expressed a similar view. She wrote on X:
"The EU has been clear: the NGO Registration Law cannot be implemented in its current form. International humanitarian law leaves no room for doubt: aid must reach those in need."
The bans cover 37 aid organizations, including Doctors Without Borders.
