The decision from EU member states on Thursday means that multiple-entry visas may no longer be granted to Somali citizens.
The requirements for applications are also being tightened, while Somali diplomats can no longer obtain visas free of charge. In addition, the processing time for a visa is being extended from 15 to 45 days.
"The aim is to encourage Somalia to improve cooperation on readmission," says a press release from the EU Council of Ministers.
