The EU may report China's tariffs on dairy products from the EU to the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to Olof Gill, policy spokesperson for the European Commission on trade.

He describes the tariffs of up to 11.7 percent on certain EU dairy products as "unjust" and "unwarranted" - even though they have been interpreted as a soft signal from Beijing, because they are significantly lower than the preliminary tariffs of up to 43 percent in December.

These customs investigations should never have taken place in the first place, says Olof Gill.

According to Gill, the EU wants to improve relations with China on trade and investment. But according to the spokesperson, this requires China to review subsidies, trade barriers, discrimination against EU companies, and dumping of goods in the EU.
