The EU Commission wants to have opinions on its public service rules.

The general public, authorities and companies are urged to comment in a so-called public consultation on the rules established in the EU's public service notice from 2009.

"Much has changed since then - from new technology to new ways of watching and new players in the sector. We want to understand if the rules still matter and are fair for everyone", writes competition responsible commissioner Teresa Ribera in a press release.

The rules from 2009 establish, among other things, that the financing of public service must be transparent, proportionate and subject to effective supervision.
