Of the so-called association agreement – which regulates trade and cooperation between the EU and Israel – it appears that the relationship should be based on respect for human rights and democratic principles. In the document, it says that there are "indications that Israel is violating its obligations regarding human rights”.
It was in May that Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas announced that the EU Commission would conduct the review.
There was an enormous majority for this. It says that the member states see that the situation in Gaza is unsustainable, Kallas noted then.
Israel rejected the announcement of the evaluation and urged the EU to exert pressure on terrorist-stamped Hamas.
The investigation was a requirement from 17 of the EU's member states on the Netherlands' initiative. Sweden is also one of the countries that wanted to see an evaluation.
