The package of measures, which must be approved by the member countries, includes tariffs to the value of 72 billion euro and also covers machine products, chemicals and plastics, medical technology products, electronics, wines and agricultural products. The list, a document which according to Bloomberg comprises 206 pages, does not mention the specific tariff rates on the goods.
Imported military products will not be covered by the tariffs, according to the document.
Donald Trump threatened over the weekend to introduce 30-percent tariffs on EU goods from August 1. The EU's Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic responded after Monday's trade minister meeting in Brussels that it was "very obvious from today's discussions that 30-percent tariffs are absolutely unacceptable".
The current list of EU's retaliatory tariffs has been drawn up in response to Trump's earlier threat of sweeping tariffs of 20 percent. Initially, the list comprised a value of a total of 95 billion euro, but after consultation with European companies and member countries, the package of measures has been reduced to 72 billion euro.
Maros Sefcovic was expected to hold new talks with his counterparts in the US as early as Monday evening.
We must be prepared for everything, warned the Trade Commissioner at the same time after the ministerial meeting in Brussels.
