Behind the new vote to be held on Thursday are concerns from EU countries and the Commission that current rules on how internet giants are allowed to search for abusive material are set to expire at the beginning of April.
However, those who back the measure the EU Parliament approved just two weeks ago are furious.
"We have already voted! Agreeing to a new vote weakens our mandate and undermines the credibility of the parliament," Czech Pirate Party member Markéta Gregorová said in a debate.
The temporary extension is intended to apply while waiting for the EU Parliament and member states to complete ongoing negotiations on a longer-term solution.
