A man who worked as an assistant in the EU parliament has been sentenced to prison for four years and nine months for having spied for China.

The man is convicted of having been a Chinese agent during his time as an assistant to Maximilian Krah, a member of parliament for the German far-right party AFD.

A court in the German city of Dresden has found that the man collected information about Europe in general and AFD in particular. He is also said to have had a leadership role towards a Chinese accomplice, and the latter receives a conditional sentence.
