The European Parliament has said yes with a large margin to postponing heavy parts of the new sustainability directives CSR and CSDD for at least a year.
The rules concern, among other things, what responsibility companies need to take to ensure that subcontractors outside the EU do not contribute to, for example, environmental destruction and child labor.
The European Commission has, however, proposed a postponement of certain parts as a means of reducing the administrative burden, in the hope of thereby improving the EU's competitiveness. Several environmental organizations have, however, been critical and believe that it is about watering down the rules, rather than making them simpler.
On Thursday, the proposals were nevertheless approved by the European Parliament with 531 yes-votes against 69 no-votes.
