The EU's Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas warns that Israel's strikes against Syria and Lebanon can exacerbate the situation in the area.
Israel has the right to self-defense against terrorist attacks, regardless of whether it is from Hamas, the Houthi movement or Hezbollah. But military operations must be proportionate and Israeli attacks in Syria and Lebanon risk leading to further escalation, says Kallas at a press conference in Jerusalem after meeting with Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
Kallas raised the EU's concerns over Israel's actions on the West Bank and hopes for resumed negotiations on Gaza.
The fundamental steps are to re-establish the ceasefire, ensure that all hostages are released and to resume humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is difficult to look ahead when bombs are falling, but we must keep hope alive, says Kallas.
