The actions in Gaza are "unacceptable", says von der Leyen, according to a statement from a phone call with Jordan's King Abdullah II on Tuesday.
"The EU Commission has always supported - and will continue to support - Israel's right to security and self-defense, but this escalation and the disproportionate use of violence against civilians cannot be justified under humanitarian and international law", von der Leyen is said to have said, among other things.
