The trip is being made together with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Faroe Islands' regional "prime minister," Attorney General Beinir Johannessen.

The visit was already planned this spring, but was postponed when Frederiksen called a Danish general election, which was held in March.

Greenland is not part of the EU, but has been promised a significant increase in EU support in the new long-term budget proposed by the Commission last year. The promise comes after US President Donald Trump repeatedly stated his desire to take over Greenland from Denmark.
