There is a new driving force in the negotiations, says the EU Commission's spokesperson Paula Pinho according to the news agency.
The message comes the day after the EU Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen spoke on the phone with the US President Donald Trump.
They agreed to both accelerate the negotiations and to keep in close contact, says Pinho.
After the phone call, Trump announced that the US is extending the pause for tariffs on goods from the EU until July 9.
We had a very pleasant conversation and I agreed to move the date, said Trump to reporters on Sunday.
Last Friday, Trump threatened to impose 50-percent tariffs on goods from the EU as of June 1 – and stated that he "is not seeking a deal" with the EU on the issue of trade tariffs. This statement caused the stock exchanges in Sweden and the rest of Europe to fall.
The Trump administration introduced 20-percent tariffs on all goods from the EU on April 2, but halved them a week later to 10 percent for 90 days to allow for negotiations.
