In the group stage, one saw themselves being surpassed by Köpings BTK, but when the playoffs, which were decided over the weekend with semifinals and finals, Eslöv showed themselves to be completely superior.
I've been saying all along that we should be at our best when it matters, said Eslöv's team leader Mattias Andersson.
In Saturday's semifinal, Eslöv won 5–1 against the home team Kosta SK. In Sunday's final, they were even more superior and crushed Köpings BTK with 5–0.
The big exclamation mark of the weekend was 21-year-old Nomin Baasan, who in the final won over Köpings' top player, Paulina Krzysiak, in three straight sets. That win meant 3–0 for Eslöv and thus the gold was practically in the bag.
I've been playing well for a while. Improved my serve and return. Learned to value the balls better and today the whole team played fantastically well, said a very pleased Nomin Baasan.
Naturally, 48-year-old Li Fen, Sweden's oldest table tennis champion, is the backbone of the gold team and someone the rest of the players can lean on.
