Those of you who are on leave, take advantage and enjoy - next year there will be more working days. But it is possible to plan for good squeeze days even in 2026.

Last year there were 249 working days for those who do not work shifts. Then all the holidays were correct in relation to Saturdays and Sundays. There cannot be fewer working days than that.

But in 2026, things look worse. National Day, June 6, falls on a Saturday and one of the Christmas days also falls on a Saturday.

First up among the public holidays in 2026 is Epiphany. Maybe too late to apply for time off, but otherwise Monday 5 January is a good time to squeeze in a day off before the public holiday on 6 January.

Easter comes with Good Friday, April 3 this year. But the public holidays, Friday and Monday, are the same every year.

May Day falls on a Friday, not for those who are looking for a day off. Ascension Day falls on a Thursday as usual, May 14 this time. June 6 has fallen on a Saturday this year. But for most employees, the national day off they miss will be compensated with another day off via the collective agreement.

After Midsummer Eve, Friday, June 19, it's a long time until the next weekend off to rest up - the Christmas and New Year's weekend in 2026, which will still be approved next year.

Five of the normally free holidays fall on a weekday, only Boxing Day falls on a Saturday.

So next Christmas also opens up for long-term leave that doesn't cost too much of your vacation balance. With six requested days off, you can avoid the boss from December 19th to January 3rd.
