The organization, The Gaza humanitarian foundation (GHF), wants to take over the efforts that UN agencies were previously responsible for. But after Israel's decision to stop, for example, the UN agency Unrwa's operations in Gaza – and block emergency shipments from reaching the Gaza Strip – almost all aid efforts have been paralyzed.

The UN and its sub-organizations do not support the American initiative, which also has Israeli support. The UN distrusts the initiative as food deliveries risk becoming part of Israel's warfare in Gaza.

GHF claims, however, that emergency shipments will reach their destination.

"More trucks with aid will arrive tomorrow (Tuesday), and the support will then increase for each day," the organization claims.

The announcement that aid deliveries are starting came on the same day as the head of GHF, Jake Wood, announced that he is resigning. He said in a statement that it is impossible to implement the aid plan and simultaneously follow principles of "humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence”.

Late on Monday evening, the organization announced that John Acree is taking over as head. He is described in a statement as a "senior aid worker with over two decades of experience in global fieldwork in disaster relief, stabilization, and civil-military coordination”.
