With two Olympic golds, she broke through at the Beijing Olympics. Eileen Gu extended her Winter Games success with a silver in slopestyle in Livigno. At the same time, she continues to stir political controversy.

In Italy there were only two successful runs, but 86.58 points in the first run was enough to take silver.

Four years ago, Gu's success was overshadowed by her passport colors. The situation remains the same today.

"I've had four really tough years, to be honest. Problems with injuries and mental issues, sometimes it feels like I'm carrying the weight of two nations on my shoulders," says Gu.

To be able to go despite that, to show my best and be so in love with the sport - I'm happy about that.

Gu grew up in San Francisco, USA, but switched to the Chinese national team in 2019 - despite China banning dual citizenship. The rivalry between the countries has put her in the crosshairs. Her U.S. Instagram account is blocked in China, but she is still visible in the country through advertisements, magazine covers and domestic media.

The Olympic debut in 2022 yielded gold in big air and halfpipe and silver in slopestyle.

Swiss Mathilde Gremaud won the gold, and Megan Oldham of Canada took the bronze.
