The warehouse is located in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and belongs to the UN's food program. A crush occurred when people tried to get in through the main entrance and even tore down parts of the walls.
Two people were crushed to death and two were shot dead, reports al-Aqsa hospital. WFP writes in a post on X that at least two people were killed.
"The humanitarian needs have spun out of control after 80 days of complete blockade of all food aid and other emergency aid to Gaza", writes WFP.
Pauses Emergency Aid
Earlier on Wednesday, news came that the controversial American-Israeli initiative Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) temporarily pauses its emergency aid deliveries due to unrest.
Riots broke out also at GHF's aid center in Rafah in southern Gaza when hungry people stormed it on Tuesday evening.
A Palestinian was shot dead and 48 were injured in the chaos that erupted there, according to the health authorities in Gaza, controlled by the terrorist-stamped Hamas.
Israeli military is said to have fired warning shots at the GHF facility and smoke was seen from the site. An AP journalist reports that he saw shelling from a helicopter and heard shots from Israeli tanks and weapons.
Gets Criticism
GHF is criticized for using aid as a weapon. Many of the people outside the facility in Rafah turned against being forced to undergo facial recognition tests so that Israel can determine if they are known Hamas members or not.
"Humanitarian aid must be safe, impartial, and needs-based, and should not be distributed through facial recognition, biometric screening or under surveillance of armed personnel. There is nothing humanitarian about what we see in Gaza", says Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children's regional manager for the Middle East, in a comment.
In parallel on Wednesday, health authorities announced that 28 people had been killed and 179 injured in various Israeli attacks.
Since Israel unilaterally broke the ceasefire with Hamas on March 18, over 3,800 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-controlled authorities.
