The German Coletta Rydzek took her first World Championship victory in her career in the sprint in Lahtis. Rydzek beat the Norwegian skiing star Kristine Stavås Skistad in the final sprint.
It's hard to describe. I never thought I would achieve this, but here I am, says Rydzek after the win.
Johanna Hagström was the only Swedish athlete in the final, and was long in the fight for a podium spot. Hagström lost pace in the final sprint and finished fourth, behind Nadine Fähndrich in third place.
Anger's success
All Swedish women advanced from the qualification, but Moa Lundgren, Moa Ilar, and Märta Rosenberg were all eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Maja Dahlqvist did not advance from the semifinal.
It was not a final for Edvin Anger either. But despite the miss, the 22-year-old has now secured second place in the total World Championship, behind Johannes Høsflot Klæbo.
It's the first time in ten years that a Swedish male skier finishes on the podium in the total World Championship. The last time was when Calle Halvarsson finished third in 2015.
Anger has also secured the victory in the U23 cup, which he also won last season.
In the sprint, it was Høsflot Klæbo who won. The Norwegian has now won all men's sprints this World Championship season.
"Becomes less"
Anger was eliminated in the semifinal after a tight race.
I become less when I don't take charge in the semis, I don't get into the race. I lose my rhythm, become passive, like I was at the beginning of the season, I don't do my thing, says Anger.
Better went in the prologue, where Anger finished second and was faster than Klæbo (third).
Emil Danielsson and Måns Skoglund were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Johan Häggström, Anton Grahn, and George Ersson did not advance from the qualification.
This weekend's competitions in Lahtis are the last World Championship races of the season.
