After a slow start to the year, e-commerce sales increased in March to 13.3 billion kronor – an increase of 11 percent compared to March 2024.
However, the upswing in March was not enough to lift the first quarter, and sales declined by 3 percent. It remains to be seen whether the weak first quarter is just a temporary dip or a sign that households are holding back.
"Despite the positive monthly figures, we are forced to conclude that the quarter as a whole was somewhat weaker than the previous year. There is no doubt, however, that trade is facing major challenges. The latest example is the trade war between China and the US," says Per Ljungberg, innovation manager at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
