European radio and tv union (EBU) will hold a closed vote among its members on whether Israel will be allowed to participate in Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) next year.

This is evident from a letter cited by several foreign media, including the Austrian Kronen Zeitung.

The EBU has called a meeting at the beginning of November where the various European broadcasting companies will vote on Israeli participation.

The TV companies of Ireland, the Netherlands, and Spain have previously stated that they do not intend to send any artists to the competition next year if Israel is allowed to participate.

Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has been strongly questioned since the Hamas terror attack in the country on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza.

The highest responsible manager of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Briton Martin Green, has previously told TT that the organizer EBU has initiated a process with consultation with its member countries to come to a decision.

SVT has not yet taken a stance on the issue, but refers to the process within the EBU.

Next year's Eurovision Song Contest will be held on May 12-16 in Vienna, Austria.
