The reward is given to those individuals who can provide tips that lead to a conviction with imprisonment as a consequence. This applies to the crimes of gross hunting offense or gross game poaching for lynx, bear, wolf, wolverine, and golden eagle. The tips are handled under "strict secrecy" and during the trial process, the Swedish Predator Association offers support.
The association believes that the illegal hunting is a threat primarily to the wolf but also to all other predators. According to the association, it also undermines trust in the rule of law and biological diversity.
"We know that the illegal hunting is widespread and that very few crimes are cleared up. By offering a substantial reward, we want to lower the threshold for people to dare to tell. This is about standing up for the law and for endangered species," says Magnus Orrebrant, Secretary-General of the Swedish Predator Association, in a press release.
