In addition to Duplantis taking home the award as the year's top athlete in technical disciplines, he was also named male athlete of the year regardless of discipline for the third time in his career.
He has previously received the award in 2020 and 2022.
Since 2023, the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) has also appointed three male award winners depending on the type of sport they practice – one in running events, one in technical events and one in competitions that take place outside the athletics arenas.
For three years in a row, Duplantis has now received the award for the technology disciplines.
Duplantis won the World Championships gold medal in Tokyo in September and improved his world record to 6.30 meters in the final. It was his fourth world record of 2025 and he also won the World Championships indoor gold medal earlier this year.
American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the World Championships gold medalist in the 400 meters, was named female athlete of the year in any discipline. She also received the award for the running disciplines.
