The attacks – blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia – reportedly targeted a large dam in territory controlled by the army, its headquarters and an airport, according to a statement claiming that the attacks had been repelled.
Explosions were also reportedly heard in the city, which is located about 350 kilometers north of the capital Khartoum, during the night of Thursday and caused power outages.
In recent months, the RSF has increasingly used drones in its continued warfare against the army.
In late October, the RSF captured al-Fashir – the army's last major stronghold in Darfur – which has been followed by reports of mass executions and alarms of ethnic cleansing.
