"Attempts to attack Hamad International Airport have been made, all of which were repelled," says press spokesman Majed al-Ansari of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He adds that they were missile attacks and were shot down. But the Iranian attacks on the gas-rich country in recent days will not "go unanswered," promises al-Ansari.
It was further announced that Qatar is currently not communicating with Iran, which was attacked by Israel and the US this weekend and is now carrying out counterattacks on a broad front.
In the neighboring United Arab Emirates, debris from a downed drone has caused a fire in an industrial oil facility in Fujairah, according to local authorities. The fire was extinguished and no people were reported injured.
The drone was described as part of an Iranian counterattack.
In parallel, France has reportedly sent Rafale fighter jets over the United Arab Emirates to protect naval and air bases against Iranian attacks, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced.
This weekend, a hangar at a French base was hit by a drone.
Airstrikes are also reported from neighboring Oman, where a drone hit a fuel tank in the port of Duqm, starting a fire. No people were reported injured.
