At least 13 people were killed in an Israeli attack on Palestinians in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities and media, in the deadliest attack on Lebanese soil since Israel and the Hezbollah movement signed a ceasefire a year ago.

The attack took place on Tuesday evening on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon. A drone struck a parking lot at a mosque in an established Palestinian refugee camp.

The death toll has been raised slightly since then, and in addition to the dead, several people have been injured, according to Lebanese statements.

Israel says it struck a Hamas facility where new attacks on Israeli targets were being prepared. After the attack, armed Hamas members prevented journalists in the area from reaching the site of the drone strike, while ambulances were working there.

Since the ceasefire came into effect in late November last year, more than 270 people have been killed and hundreds more injured in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities. Israel has justified most of the attacks by saying that the armed Shiite movement Hezbollah has been trying to rebuild its military capabilities.

On Wednesday morning, the Israeli military announced that two Hezbollah members had been killed near the border in southern Lebanon in an attack that reportedly took place on Tuesday.
