The Israeli military says in a statement that it has struck 30 positions held by what is described as terrorist organizations. Now "the ceasefire is being maintained again", it says, but the country's defense forces are ready to come up with "sharp answers" if the agreement is broken again.
According to news agency AP's sources in the Gaza Strip, the dead and injured have been pouring into hospitals throughout the Palestinian area. Several of the hospitals report that at least around half of the dead are minors.
According to Israel's allegations, the Palestinian Hamas is said to have opened fire on Israeli soldiers in southern Gaza. Hamas, in turn, has denied having anything to do with the violence.
Gets support from Trump
US President Donald Trump, whose envoy negotiated the ceasefire, expressed support for the Israeli attacks during the night.
They killed an Israeli soldier. So the Israelis struck back. And they should strike back, Trump said to reporters on the presidential plane Air Force One.
Trump also claims that "nothing" jeopardizes the ceasefire, without developing his reasoning.
Israel is stopping the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from visiting Palestinian prisoners, announces Defense Minister Israel Katz.
"The statements I have received leave no doubt that the Red Cross's visits to terrorists in prisons would seriously harm the state's security", it says in a statement from his office.
"Powerful attacks"
Israel Katz has stated that Hamas will "pay a high price" for an "attack on Israeli soldiers". The army has confirmed that at least one soldier has been killed in connection with "clashes in southern Gaza Strip".
He is also sending a warning to Hamas leadership.
There is no immunity for anyone in the leadership of the terrorist organization Hamas - neither for those in suits nor for those hiding in tunnels, he says, reports AFP.
Hamas claims that it intends to continue working to maintain the ceasefire.
Israel must realize that we intend to uphold the agreement entered into and they must stop falsely accusing us of violating it, said Suhail al-Hindi, one of the members of the movement's politburo, to the Qatar-based TV channel Al Jazeera.
